Brian Curley's patent-pending mechanism successfully preserves the posts, the mailboxes they support and the support structures in the ground. Ingeniously, the invention keeps the post steady and stable in normal conditions but is ready to fold and, consequently, preserve the structure for future use, once a certain level of pressure is exerted on it.

That pressure may result from too much snow packed around the mailbox post -- a surprisingly common occurrence in some parts of the United States -- or from a direct hit by a vehicle (mail/delivery van, car, truck, etc.).
